Sowing Seeds
Jesus said –
The kingdom of God is as if someone would scatter seeds on the ground…
The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on the earth; yet when it is sown it grows up & becomes the greatest of all shrubs…
And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path…other seed on rocky ground…other seed among thorns, other seed fell into good soil…
Sometimes it is difficult to determine where the seed may fall, yet we know the seed that we sow is the best; it is of God. And the sower is extravagant with the sowing – it went everywhere! We, too, are to be extravagant with our sowing, not holding back, not knowing what will be the return upon harvesting.
There is so much dishonesty, so much hardness of heart (frequently born out of fear), so much self-absorption. Still people of faith need to continue to sow the seeds of the kingdom of God.
The seeds of the kingdom of God are the seeds of graceful love, seeds that have the potential to transform the world, to birth new creation.
May we who have received God’s graceful love shower our pathways with seeds of the kingdom wherever life takes us. May we partner with the master gardeners, the master sowers, & sow seeds that may be small but which have the potential to provide larger branches “so that the birds of the air can make their nests in its shade.”
