Mary, Mother of Jesus

Three observations:

  1. Mary was a teenager! Imagine that. Sometimes we get trapped into thinking only mature, seasoned voices can make a difference. Yet here is God, selecting a teenager to birth the savior of the world.
  2. We have no description of Gabriel, the angel, the messenger of God. I think the bearer of God’s messages can come in all shapes and sizes. Perhaps Gabriel appeared as a gardener or a baker or even a potter.
  3. Mary liked to think things through, to reflect, to ponder. In our world of instant communication and reflexive responses, we could learn from this teenager to ponder more, to think things through.

The young girl who said “Yes” to God’s request to participate in changing the world is worthy of our continual thanks and our continued praise.
