Follow in His Steps

On holdover from the tenure of the Rev. Dr. Robert Purcel, in the priest office, is an old dark painted crucifix.  Janice Purcel, when she visited sometime ago, was surprised to see it there on the credenza, behind the desk where Bob had placed it many years ago.  In times when the fruits of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, faithfulness, kindness, gentleness, generosity, and self-control seem to be in short supply, it is worth noting that the journey of Jesus was one that lead to his mocking, abuse, crucifixion, and painful death upon that cross.  Jesus knows that walk and walks beside us in tough times!

However, the cross we open with at worship at All Saints is an empty cross!  As the angel said to the women gathered on that first Easter by the tomb, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?  He is not here.”  Jesus rose victorious from the grave and as we follow in his footsteps, we too, will be victorious.  The darkness will not prevail, the love of God shines eternally.
