Faithfulness Rewarded
Elisha knew that he was not worthy to follow in the footsteps of his mentor, Elijah. As Elijah approached his last days, Elisha proclaimed that he would not leave his side. His faithfulness was reworded by receiving “a double share” of the Spirit and also receiving the stole of Elijah to carry on his ministry.
Our faithfulness through good times and through not so good times is also rewarded as we pick up the stole, the ministry, of those who precede us. For our ministry to survive and to thrive means to pay attention to the gifts of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, faithfulness, kindness, gentleness, generosity, and self control. Steeped in these gifts our ministry will continue to thrive.
