Digging Deeper

Jesus said “I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, & acts on them.  That one is like a person building a house, who dug deeply & laid the foundation on rock; when a flood rose, the river burst against that house, but could not shake it, because it had been well built.”  (Luke 6: 47-48)

I think we live in times of danger, times of flood, with waters crushing around us as we pledge to be people of faith.  Sometimes it even seems that the raging waters will wash us away too.

Mercy as a broad-based community value is shrinking.  Care for “this fragile earth, our island home” is being challenged, truth telling is problematic at all levels of society.  Families are dissolving through stress & through government actions.

?So what remains?

People of faith are digging deeper through worship, prayer, study, & service so that we may be firmly anchored to the one who will not be displaced by the raging waters.  As we are firmly anchored, may we continue to extend our arms of love outward to the world around us, rather than just embracing each other.  May our extended arms of love enable others to experience the life-giving grace, the life-giving mercy of God.
