Looking for Love
Johnny Lee wrote a country western song that was popular a few years ago. It includes these words –
I was lookin’ for love in all the wrong places,
Looking’ for love in too many faces,
Searchin’ their eyes
Looking’ for traces of what I’m dreaming of.
In our reading from the gospel according to St. Luke, Simeon & Anna were in the temple in Jerusalem when the infant Jesus was carried in by his mother, Mary. Simeon & Anna were looking for the love of God come down from heaven in the long expected Messiah. Guided by the Holy Spirit, they were lead to the Christ-child. They were looking for the love of God in the right place & to them he was revealed. Their lives were now complete.
While the Holy Spirit guides us each along our varied paths, I believe we too can look & find the love our hearts desire here at All Saints.
The love is present among the people at worship on Sunday, at study on Wednesday, at services at Martha’s Table, at coffee hour, & other times of conversation. This is the right place to be.
And though we will still experience dark times & pain & grief, as did Mary & Joseph, they are bearable in the Light of Jesus.
Moreover, as we live in the light of God, the love of God, we may even be blessed to be the light of God & the love of God for others.
